Paradigm shift in the meanings and implications of the concept of security

Paradigm shift in the meanings and implications of the concept of security

Volume 24, Issue 1, Spring 2021, Pages 7-29

Salman Sadeghizadeh

Abstract The concept of security, like other simple concepts, can lead to the formation of different "intellection" in the process of "understanding"; because it is historical and under different paradigms, it takes on different meanings. From this point of view, the birth of the concept of security in its classical sense can be considered as coinciding with the emergence of the political paradigm; A paradigm in which security was on a par with maintaining political order and the integrity of the nation-state. After that, the transition from the political paradigm to the economic paradigm of security took place; Above all, in the form of "social security", efforts to reduce class distance and increase social justice became the focus of security studies. From the end of the twentieth century onwards, we are witnessing the emergence of the cultural paradigm of security. This article argues that the transition to the cultural paradigm of security is a direct result of the late modernization that gave rise to new theories of security, the most important part of which is the theory of community security; Which puts the confidence of individuals and social groups in preserving their identity and values in the focus of security studies.

Impact of Fluctuations in Financial Markets on Oil Prices and Irans Economic Security

Impact of Fluctuations in Financial Markets on Oil Prices and Iran's Economic Security

Volume 21, Issue 80, Summer 2018, Pages 101-134

Mohammad Jafari, Abbas Shakeri, Teimour Mohammadi

Abstract Using a vector autoregression model, this study aims to explore the impact of financial markets on crude oil prices and Iran's economic security. The results of analysis of variance indicate that financial transactions markets, particularly the Brent futures market, have the greatest impact on the physical crude oil market. In addition, the results of action-reaction functions suggest that shocks in financial markets have different impacts on crude oil prices, meaning a shock in the Brent futures market creates a positive shock to crude oil prices and a shock resulting from the dollar-price index produces a negative shock to oil prices. Due to the heavy reliance of the Iranian government's budget on oil revenues, fluctuations in financial markets lead to fluctuations in many of the country's economic indexes and negatively affect national security.

Volume 16, Issue 60, Summer 2013, Pages 61-90

Hassan Shokouh

Abstract economic security has been used in different meanings. Some scholars define it as securing military expenditure, some describe it as welfare and convenience, and others explain it as powerful presence in international economy.  Since its all concepts require structural reforms in economy to increase productivity and security, we can claim that economic security has a close relation with privatization and cession of state- owned enterprises to private sector.  In  the process of structural reform or strengthening private sector role in economy, decrease of costs,  increase in productivity of social capacity, active and institutional participation of economic classes and groups in cession process, monitoring role of state, cession models, and  the model of interaction with international economy, has a strict role and effect on economic stability or instability and decrease or increase of economic security.

The effect of budget deficit on economic security of Iran

Volume 16, Issue 60, Summer 2013, Pages 91-124

Ali Sayadzadeh, Eiman Farjamnia, Afifeh Hajarian, Bahman Taheri

Abstract this article tries to explain long term effects of budget deficit on inflation rate as a most important factor in Iranian economic security. Authors use structural auto-regression method to analyze outcomes of state budget deficit shocks. According to findings, structural shocks and fluctuations of budget deficit, has a meaningful positive effect on inflation rate, and also has a meaningful negative effect on economic growth. But, authors claim that these effects are less than effects of net money volume of state budget deficit. So, while we can claim that inflation in Iran has a monetary nature, it can be argued that budget deficit increases inflation and consequently weakens economic security.

Human Security in the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Volume 11, Issue 41, Autumn 2008, Pages 545-571

Farzad Poursaeed

Abstract Human security is the last paradigm of security studies in the 21st century and constitutes the new agenda for security studies. The current paper illustrates the place of human security, as a popular approach and based on long term satisfaction of the people, within the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran. To this end, the theoretical aspect of the issue is considered first and then under the light of this understanding, the relevant provisions of the constitution is considered. The author of this paper argues that the very idea of human security lies within the context of the constitution which sets the limits of national security and its boundaries and limits; it does not overlap or replace the national security.
