An Assessment of Changes in Deterrence Policy of Lebanons Hezbollah Against Zionist Regime

An Assessment of Changes in Deterrence Policy of Lebanon's Hezbollah Against Zionist Regime

Volume 21, Issue 79, Spring 2018, Pages 41-68

Saeed Sasanian

Abstract This article aims to analyze the components of the deterrence policy adopted by Lebanon's Hezbollah and explains how it has been influenced by the crisis in Syria. The researcher argues that the Syrian crisis has led to an increase in the tactical and operational capabilities of Hezbollah, which, coupled with its enhanced technological and military power, has enabled it to present a greater threat. This means that the group's policy has the three main elements of deterrence, namely the ability to pose a threat, credible threat and the conveyance of a deterrent message. Israel's refusal to wage a war against Hezbollah shows that the movement's deterrence strategy has been successful. However, Hezbollah, due to the asymmetric nature of its strategies and tactics, needs to increase its deterrence posture in the face of Israel. The research adopted an analytical descriptive method and a library-based approach was used to gather the data.

Sea Blockade of Gaza Strip from International Law Perspective

Sea Blockade of Gaza Strip from International Law Perspective

Volume 20, Issue 76, Summer 2017, Pages 137-154

jamshid Momtaz, Masoud Alizadeh, Shahram Zarneshan

Abstract Given the legal reasons, the paper highlights that the Israeli clash with the Gaza strip is not an internationally armed conflict and therefore the Gaza strip blockade is not a legitimate action. Furthermore, if this clash is assumed as an armed conflict, it is not legitimate as the Israeli regime has not met the International Humanitarian Law. Discarding the principle of “not to use famine as a weapon against civilians” is the main reason to prove illegitimacy of the Israeli attempt to impose a sea blockade against Gaza.

The Azerbaijan and Zionist Regime relationship and its Implications on National Security of Iran

Volume 19, Issue 73, Winter 2017, Pages 137-158

Ali Omidi, Mustafa Kheyri

Abstract The main argument discussed at the paper is that the Azeri officials are thinking about the relationship with Israel in the context of their dispute with Armenia especially on the Karabakh issue.  In this context they are mainly seeking for having the advanced military equipment and technologies from Israel as well as to acquire the support of Zionist lobby in the USA against Armenia.  Israel and its turn values its relationship with Azerbaijan within the context of this so-called peripheral doctrine  The main purpose of which is to cope with the Islamic Republic of your own in terms of political, military, intelligence as well as economic matters.

The Religious Zionism and its Strategic Role in Israel’s Foreign Policy

The Religious Zionism and its Strategic Role in Israel’s Foreign Policy

Volume 17, Issue 66, Summer 2014, Pages 129-160

Mahdi Ahouie

Abstract Although the Israeli government has a secular nature, Zionism is increasingly prevailing its internal and external affairs. Using the theory of securitization, the paper addresses religious Zionism orientation, as belief of minority but with strong voice, of the Israeli government with increasing status which in turn is a result of identity crisis and security vulnerabilities; so it has been the dominant and comprehensive discourse of the country and has been successfully radicalized its foreign policy. In this way, Netanyahu's administration has been opposing establishing a Palestinian government and increased pace settlements with no restrain from use of violence against the defenseless people of Palestine. Implementing this policy, Israel is not taking peace lover position anymore and has adopted an intrusive approach against its peripheral environment.  Although this policy may lead to more convergence in short term in Israel, however, in midterm, it can result in more isolation and vulnerability of Israel.

Volume 16, Issue 60, Summer 2013, Pages 153-170

Amin Parto, Sharareh Abdolhoseinzadeh

Abstract The history of Israeli foreign policy and national security shows that military option has been the main instrument of this regime to achieve her political goals. Military instrument has been used to gain political existence, water security, deterrence and also peace in Israeli foreign policy. Meanwhile, Israel's security and political system, believes that its inability to response against newborn threats is dependent on its weeks in military technology. Because of this axiom, Israel always insists on military technology development to ensure military victory. Continuity of this approach, although it had some successes, is questioned by some limits and uncertainty of its outcomes. This article describes these issues.

Volume 11, Issue 39, Spring 2008, Pages 135-164

Abdollah Ghanbarloo

Abstract linked to the heterogeneous political identities of the two sides. In this way, the role ofIsraelas an apprehensive variable is very important, because, neither the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to acceptIsraelas an actor in the region, nor theUScan be indifferent towards the threats and pressures ofIranagainst its long life ally,Israel. It is specially the case due to the Jewish society in theUSas the main important lobby group in the country which is completely effective on decision making in the field of foreign policy including the US Middle East policy. Nowadays, theUSaccusations againstIran, including preventing the peace process in the Middle East, acquiring weapons of mass destruction, harboring terrorism and breach of human rights and democracy are strongly linked with security ofIsrael.  Therefore, although a limited cooperation betweenIranand theUSis possible at the tactical level, but as long as the current interaction between theUSandIsraelgoes on, normalization of theIran–USrelations would be impossible.
