Abstract
In this survey the implications of foreign trade on environmental security of Iran, specifically due to carbon dioxide emissions, is discussed. The main question of the paper is that how the foreign trade, directly or indirectly, has affected carbon dioxide emissions during 1979 until 2015. To answer the question, the available data are considered and discussed in three different phases. Based on the findings of the paper, the direct effect of the foreign trade has been positive for exports and has increased carbon dioxide omissions. Also, its indirect effect has been positive as it has increased revenues of the country. However, the foreign trade has caused environmental insecurity in Iran.
